ASD uses the latest computer technology in solid modeling to produce most of its utility patent illustrations. We precisely model the invention, and then use that model in the required views. This produces a tangible look and feel to the invention that can only be achieved through the use of solid modeling. Solid modeling not only provides consistency in the design concept throughout the artwork, but it also allows us to modify, adjust or change content of illustrations without starting over. A simple change in the original model will ripple through all of the views, thus producing an instant update to the entire package. Using the same model in different views helps satisfy the demand for precise and accurate patent illustrations. This reduces the chances of ambiguity in the patent claim, and that increases the chances of a successful defense in case of litigation.

Our illustrations follow the U.S. Department of Commerce Patent and Trademark Office “Guide for the Preparation of Patent Drawings.” This document states that drawings are to be capable of clear reproduction. The computer programs we use for Illustrations produce what is called vector art. The advantage of using vector art is that you can blow it up as large as you want or compress it as small as you want and it does not lose resolution. Our drawing programs have the ability to import a photo of anything and digitally 'trace' its outline producing vector art graphics that are extremely clear, scaleable, and reproducible.
Through the use of Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and other state of the art computer programs we are able to build composite illustrations of inventions that only exist in the mind of the inventor.
